The concept of Unwrapped was hatched in early 2006 when Ebony was looking for a market in Perth to test her ideas. There wasn't one. Not one that attracted the right kind of crowd and was full of like-minded, creative designers. So, as any good design student would, Ebony decided to make one herself.

With the help of the City of South Perth, a bit of funding from DCA and some brilliant volunteers, the very first Unwrapped: the marketplace kicked off in April 2007, filling Mends Street with designer stalls and a 10 000 strong crowd of eager Sunday shoppers.

One of those brilliant volunteers, with a background in fashion and PR, was Aleksandra, who joined the Unwrapped team later that year to help answer the question on everyone's lips... 'So, when is the next one?'

Five years and nine marketplace events later, Unwrapped is really building momentum. Now known as the best designer market in Perth (your words, not ours... honest), our sights are fixed on new opportunities to unlock talent each and every year, in one enormous annual showcase.
